University of Birmingham spin out Linear Diagnostics today announced that with immediate effect it has changed its name to ExGen Dx. The legal entity will remain Linear Diagnostics.
Brendan Farrell Chair stated that ‘the new name better reflects our key underlying proprietary EXPAR technology, an ultra-rapid molecular technique for nucleic acids detection. We continue to progress the development of our 15-minute duplex test for chlamydia and gonorrhoea and to seek partnerships for the co-development of other tests.’
The company has recently been awarded £1m funding to finalise the development of a rapid test for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), in partnership with the NIHR HealthTech Research Centre (HRC) in Diagnostic and Technology Evaluation and the North East Innovation Lab, part of Newcastle Hospitals.
About ExGen Dx
The company’s Exponential Amplification (EXPAR) technology detects nucleic acids using an extremely fast method for amplifying the signal, which was developed and tested at the University during the COVID-19 pandemic, with results published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
